When you acquire a new pet they shrink. As you level, they get marginally bigger. Obviously the lvl 70 pets are the largest. Also different animals are inheritnly bigger. Example, a Snow wolf in Don Morogh is significantly smaller than the Dark wolves in Darkwood Forest. Also, you may want to look for rare animals for better stats.
FYI, pet size doesn’t mean the are tougher or faster or hit harder. A wolf type will have the same skills available at lvl 10 just as lvl 70 (albeit the ranks of the skills will be higher) so the smaller snow wolf of Don Mor will hit just as hard or be just as tough as a wolf of equal level from DW.
